Voter ID card is issued by government agency Election Commission of India. This card acts as identity proof or address proof for an individual. In general terms people are eligible to vote during elections only if they have voter ID card either it was generated locally or online. This card is not just issued to everyone. People whose age is 18 years and above are only allowed to apply for a Voter ID card. In other terms Voter Identity Card is also known as Electoral Photo ID Card.
This card generally contains stamp size photo, name, complete address and the date of birth of the card holder. This card plays a vital role while applying for a passport, while buying a new car, while buying a simcard, and also while obtaining for a driving license and so on. People can apply for Voter ID online irrespective of the region like Hyderabad, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Madhya Pradesh etc.
At times, although people hold a this card, their name does not appear in the voters list. At that point of time the voter card is not valid for voting. Voter ID is not issued to people who are mentally sick and bankrupt as they are not eligible to vote. When a person moves from one assembly constituency to other constituency, this will be issued to him under previous constituency will not be valid for voting. He has to apply for a fresh voter ID card under current/present constituency.
In order to apply for Voter ID online via CEOAndhra or CEOTelangana, one has to submit FORM – 6 of Election Commission of India with all the required details like Name, Place of Stay (address), Date of Birth Certificate (for age), to their municipal corporation. After applying for FORM – 6, one can submit the other mandatory forms even at MRO offices and also at nearby e-Seva. People can even visit respective state’s online websites for applying like for Andhra Pradesh, it is ceoandhra.nic.in and for Telangana, it is ceotelangana.nic.in to obtain the Voter ID cards. Step 1: Please visit the website http://eci.nic.in/, you will see options like Form 6, 6A, 7, 8 and 8A under online voter registration, go for Form 6 to apply for Voter ID Card Online or just visit ECI Citizen Services.
Step 2: In this step all you need to do is, enter your phone number in the tab and click on proceed and wait for some time. You will receive a text message on the number provided by you.
Step 3: You will receive a verification code on your phone through a text message, kindly enter that code and click on proceed button. Now you will be redirected to a new page where you have to select the state, district and assembly constituency and then you have to enter your details like full name (surname included), age, sex, place of birth (village /town).
Note: Details represented by a red star mark are mandatory and those details should not be left blank (unfilled).
Now after entering click on save button and wait.
Step 4: You will again receive a message stating that your details are saved and you have successfully registered for applying voter ID. This message contains your application ID, your user id (your phone number) and password (your phone number).
Step 5: And then you will be redirected to the Form 6 page where in you have to enter your name, present address, birth place, and details of family members, upload your latest photograph, and also attach address proof and age proof.
Step 6: Cross check all the details and hit on submit button. And then in few days, election commission representative will visit your address (provided at the time of registration) to confirm all your details and then you will receive the voter ID card soon at your home.
There are instances, where people create fake Voter ID Cards for some illegal purposes. But misusing or obtaining fake ID cards (with fake names or address or date of births) is against law.
